The Burnt Toast Theory is the idea that life's small setbacks might be steering you away from something worse. Embracing that outlook helps turn waiting for weather windows, repairs, and rolly anchorages into part of the adventure, not obstacles to it.

About Us

We build thoughtful software for sailors — born from life aboard SV Burnt Toast and the cruising community around us.

Doug and Shauna had never sailed until a few years ago, when they decided they wanted a change and an adventure. What started as an unlikely dream became reality when they moved aboard a 2008 Lagoon 420 in January 2025.

Since then they have been living on and sailing Burnt Toast full time — from New York City to the Bahamas and beyond — documenting the journey and sharing it with fellow cruisers and landlocked friends.

Our mission: Share authentic sailing experiences, connect with the cruising community, and build practical tools that make life on the water a little easier.

The boat

Burnt Toast is a 2008 Lagoon 420 owners version catamaran. Her name comes from the Burnt Toast Theory — the idea that life's small setbacks might be steering you away from something worse. Embracing that outlook helps turn waiting for weather windows, repairs, and rolly anchorages into part of the adventure, not obstacles to it.
